Objectives:

By the end of this section, you will be able to:

  • List the two main types of format choices when creating a course.

  • Explain when to use topics format and when to use weekly format.

  • Edit topic names in a course shell.

Course Format Options

When you create a course shell, you will notice that there are several ways to format your course. For now, we will focus on the two main course format options which are topics and time schedule.

  1. Topics format: The course page is organised into topic sections. This format is good if you do not have a set schedule for your course or if students will complete the course at their own pace.

  1. Weekly format: The course page is organised into weekly sections, with the first week starting on the course start date. This format is good if you have a set schedule for your course.

Here is a picture of a course using the topics format. Notice that the course index on the left shows the course is organised by topic.
