Objectives:

By the end of this section, you will be able to:

  • Define the term course shell

  • Understand the process of creating a course shell

  • Recognize what a blank course shell looks like

What is a Course Shell?

A course shell is an empty course. To create a course in Moodle, you first need to create a course shell. Then you can start building your course by adding information, resources, and activities to the course shell.

In some cases, a course shell may be provided for you by support staff at Darakt-e Danesh, in which case you will not need to create a shell, but log into the one provided to you.

***Note: If a course shell has already been created for you, you can progress to the next lesson: 2.2 Format of a Course

Steps to Create a Course Shell

  1. On the DD Courses home page, choose “Site administration”, then “Courses”, and select “Add a new course”.

  1. Fill in the information for your course and how you would like it to be set up. To view all of your options, click on the arrow beside the section name.

Remember the blue circle with the “?” can tell you more about the setting. The red circle with “!” means the field is required. You can also ask DD Courses staff to help you set up your first course.

Click “Save and Display” when you are finished.

  1. Now you will have a blank course shell. The next steps are to create course content by adding activities and resources. You will learn more about how to do this later in this course.
